Our story

Back in 2022, we matched on Bumble and instantly clicked when we discovered we were both UI/UX designers and had even competed for the same positions.

Beyond that, our personalities couldn’t be more different: Niklas, the flirty women’s crush with a touch of ADHD chaos. Jana, the quiet, thoughtful soul who turns into a powerhouse when it comes to work.

As we spent more time together, we started reflecting on what this connection could grow into. Jana had just come out of an eight-year monogamous relationship and knew she didn’t want that again. Niklas grew up with parents in an open marriage, something he’d always found fascinating. From there, the idea of an open relationship was born.

We wanted to figure out if our visions for it were compatible, but tackling such a big topic felt overwhelming. We had no idea where to start … until we thought: What if we approach it the same way we would for a client at work?

So we started treating our relationship as a product. We planned a design sprint and ran workshop sessions around questions like: What do I hope to get from this? What am I afraid of? What rules do we need?

Step by step, we shaped a version of an open relationship that works for both of us.

To this day, we maintain using methods from the product world: year planning, retrospectives, workshops, ideation, and testing new ideas. Along this way, we’ve built a library of templates and tools that keep our relationship thriving and we’re excited to share them with you.
